memoQ: let's ensure a perfect workflow!

What's new in memoQ 3.5?

  • Longest substring concordance (LSC): a productivity boost never seen before in any translation tool! This feature boosts productivity through automating concordance lookups and displaying longer or frequently appearing expressions as a translation result. If a translator tries to insert the expression, the concordance window will come up automatically.
  • Wildcard concordance: increase the flexibility and efficiency of your searches using wildcards. Find all possible matches for a given expression in your translation memory. A must-have for linguists!
  • Wildcard in terms: we have extended our term base with wildcards in the terms themselves. Just include a wildcard in the term, and all variations will be found. You'll love this when you work out of languages other than English, e.g. Slavic languages or German.
  • STAR Transit filter: import complete Transit projects into memoQ with a single click. Process, translate and enjoy full Transit compatibility. No more struggle with Satellite versions, Transit-compatible delivery!
  • Middle East in focus: right-to-left translation? Not a problem anymore! We have developed the best translation tool that supports Arabic and Hebrew through RTF both on the source and the target sides.
  • Horizontal edit: got used to translate from up to down? Keep continue working this way and give a try to memoQ's new horizontal editor.
  • XML preview: to supply translators with context and technical details while translating XML documents in memoQ, a preview feature for XML documents is now available.
  • PPT filter: handle and translate Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 files. Quickly and easily.
  • A blazing fast server: the memoQ server has always been famous for its fantastic speed. It's the only server technology translators are happy with. And now it's even faster! We believe there is no other TM server technology that can even get close to this.

What's new in memoQ 3.2?

New client features

  • Enhanced fragment assembly. memoQ 3.2 combines terminology, translation memory and auto-translatable (pattern) matches. You can automatically pre-translate numbers, dates or repetitive product descriptions to speed up the translation process by up to 50%.
  • AutoCorrect lists. Automatically correct your typos, or build custom lists to speed up typing.
  • Enhanced filter architecture. Save and share custom import settings for all file format filters.
  • Enhanced XML filter. Import context IDs and comments from XML content, set non-translation conditions based on attribute values, and customize the way whitespace is handled.
  • Customizable interface. To address the needs of visually impaired users, you can customize every aspect of the editing interface, from the color-coding of segment status to the font and markup used in the translation results panel.
  • Internationalization Tag Set. Through the new XML filter memoQ supports the ITS.

  • Support for dedicated SQL database servers and custom data folders to better meet enterprise requirements
  • Usability improvements for translators and project managers. Besides smart quotes and AutoCorrect lists, you can handle multiple terminology entries at once or clean up all files in a project with a single command.

What's new in memoQ 3.0?

Client side changes

  • Full support for XLIFF - from now on XLIFF is equivalent to MBD, and this makes it possible to translate memoQ-prepared files in other tools and the other way around also.
  • Brand new spell checker - with Hunspell you can spell-check any language, not just those that you have installed in Word.
  • New term base (TB2) - blazing fast and more powerful new term base engine that contains grammatical information, support for images, customizable prefix matching and forbidden terms. For forbidden terms you get a different colour match.
  • Term base export into Multiterm XML - those freaks using this format can also enjoy an export from memoQ.
  • Filtering locked/unlocked segments.
  • Updating any translation document from bilingual RTF - If you created a bilingual DOC from an Excel in 2.3 for example, changed it and imported it back, clicking Export (dialog) gave you a DOC. You could only get back the Excel through pretranslation. From now on, you could leave this step out.
  • Brand new XML filter - supports also non-valid XML and has enhanced support for SGML.
  • New installer - there are no installer issues anymore on Vista, and language can be selected during the install.
  • Support for proofreading - we introduced a new segment status, called "proofread".

Server side changes

  • online document management add-in - several people can work on the same document at the same time.
  • Enables real-time collaboration between translators and proofreaders, making it possible for the proofreader to start working before the translator finishes.
  • Enterprise license management - the long awaited mobile licenses are finally here.
  • Brand new terminology moderation interface - the user interface has been improved dramatically and term history is introduced.
  • Server TM hit limit - you can specify the maximum number of TM hits retrieved from a server.
  • Server admin enhancements - usability fixes and nicer GUI for the server admin.

What's new in memoQ 2.3?

  • Preview functionality. To facilitate translation, memoQ displays a preview of the source file in a separate preview pane and updates it with your translations as you translate. You can also jump to a certain segment by clicking on it in the preview pane.
  • Support for Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages on the source side. With its new statistical engines, memoQ can now handle Far-Eastern languages on the source side too, giving meaningful fuzzy matches and displaying the Asian character counts separately in the statistics.
  • All new TTX editing. Besides the traditional non-interpreted tags, memoQ can now also display TTX tags with inline tags, enabling you to change the order of the tags and to see the meaning of the tags. Thus memoQ becomes an alternative editor to SDL Trados Tageditor.
  • Customizable translation results pane font size. memoQ's new accessibility feature enables users to change the font size in the Translation Results pane.

What's new in memoQ 2.2?

  • Seamless support for the bilingual RTF format. memoQ's new bilingual RTF is equivalent in functionality to memoQ’s existing bilingual format, MBD: all files available in any original file format can be exported into and imported from bilingual RTF. This enables proofreaders and reviewers to work in Microsoft Word and import the changes they propose with a single mouse-click. Any MBD can be converted into RTF and back without any loss of data.

  • Support for named and dynamic views. Users can create views by combining segments with specific segment types or expressions into a single virtual document. Views can combine multiple documents into one or can also split a single document into multiple documents. Views can be sent out for translation just like normal documents and when imported back, they can refresh the content of the original translation documents.

  • Reworked document storage. memoQ's new document model is able to handle documents with over 10,000 segments efficiently.

  • Improved whitespace handling. The whitespace handling in memoQ 2.2 is prepared to tackle double-byte languages and it never happens anymore that a join and split operation adds an extra space.

  • Improvements to treating XML, INX and MIF files. The logic of inserting exact matches with different inline tag contents has been improved to speed up work.

What's new in memoQ 2.1?

  • Context-sensitive translation memory. Currently the translation memory engine examines the segment, and if it is the same as a segment already translated, it assigns a match rate of 100%. However, if the context is also taken into account, you can be absolutely sure that the translation is correct. This is what we call a 101% match. The context can either be the previous and the next segment, or segments can also be linked to specific information, like the name of a resource in software localization. Thus review time is minimized.

  • Translation memory driven segmentation. If you used a different translation tool for the translation of a previous document version or joined/splitted segments at places, you may not be able to automatically re-create the translation of a slightly modified document using pre-translation. Translation memory driven segmentation automatically splits and joins segments to fit the 100% translation memory matches. This makes memoQ the only tool to automatically recreate any document immediately while maintaining the possibility to store meaningful units in the translation memory, saving a lot of time for project managers and translators working with different versions of the same document.

  • Locking segments in the translation grid. You will be able to lock segments, preventing unintentional change.

  • Global find and replace. You will be able to perform find and replace functionality on all documents at the same time, making it easier to manage change in terminology.

  • Smart batch document import and export. If you are working with hundreds of short HTML files organized into a folder hierarchy, you won't have to click a thousand times to work with them. memoQ will automatically import subfolder contents, and you will be able to define so-called export rules that will specify where and under what file names to store the translated material.

  • Integrated resource management. You will be able to edit translation memory and term base entries directly from the translation grid, thus saving a lot of time and improving the quality of your resources. You will also be able to import TMX into the term base and CSV into the translation memory, increasing the flexibility of resource management.

  • Manual term base lookup. Term bases will be searchable, so if memoQ does not find the inflected form of a term, you can still look for it.

  • New file filter for InDesign.

  • A lot of minor improvements. Improved concordancing, context help, automatic formatting of inserted TB entries, new statistics export formats, improved symbol insertion, etc.

What's new in memoQ 2.0?

  • Two new document filters. The XML filter enables memoQ to communicate with any XML-based content management system and makes it possible to translate XML documents directly from memoQ. The powerful XML import settings make it possible to easily define what elements and attributes you want to translate. During translation the warning system checks the integrity and validity of XML files and warns you of any possible format corruption. Contrary to memoQ's practice, you do not only see numbered tags but also the XML tags when processing XML files - this gives you the flexibility to use the filter on any XML document. memoQ 2.0 also introduces a filter for Adobe Framemaker MIF files.

  • Quickest RTF importing. One of the weaknesses of memoQ was the speed of the RTF filter. With the new filter you can import RTF documents up to 50 times quicker than before.

  • Auto-propagation. If you wish, you can ensure total consistency of repeating segments with this function. If you confirm a translation for a segment at one place, the program is able to change the translations of the same segment appearing at other places within the document.

  • Go to different segment types. If you want to navigate the document quickly, this is the tool for you. You can now specify what segment types to jump to when you press Ctrl+G. You can quickly go through all repetitions, all errors, all pre-translated segments, all edited segments or all comments - or a combination of these.

  • Segmentation Rule eXchange (SRX). memoQ 2.0 is SRX-compatible, it is able to exchange not only translation memories but also segmentation rules pertaining to translation memories. This is an important milestone in the interoperability of different translation tools because different segment lengths could prevent you from getting a hit from the translation memory that you exported from another tool and imported into memoQ.

  • The world's most advanced resource server. memoQ LSP5 and memoQ enterprise editions contain the world's most advanced translation resource server with group and rights management and the ability to create team projects. Team projects - unlike server projects in memoQ 1.0 - do not only contain the information necessary to set up a project but also information on the team members and their roles, enabling them to communicate from within memoQ: users can discuss terminology, warn each other of possible pitfalls, provide help with the program, etc. Communication creates value as it forms the basis of the corporate knowledge base. The new server also includes major improvements to the workflow: it is possible to appoint a terminologist to revise all terms created by translators in the team before actually making the term available to all translators. This guarantees high quality term bases and full control over the project resources. What's more, translators can connect to the server and see what's there for them to work on - the new team project enables them to do so. Beyond any doubt, memoQ 2.0 has the world's best resource server and the best server prices.

  • Quality assurance. Translation quality assurance comes as an add-in, and it is the quickest way to find translation inconsistencies and small mistakes. The module includes over 30 types of different checks, including completeness, number matching on the source and target side, correct number format check, the consistency of the translation of identical sentences, the spelling of proper names, the consistent use of terminology, etc. The checks raise warnings and you can easily go through all the potential mistakes in the text before handing it over to the customer.

  • New editing functions. Document editing has never been so convenient! In memoQ you can perform operations on multiple files at once, you can toggle case, and the tool also improved in guessing what formatting you want to use.
